Many of us admire the French Country kitchen designs. We do what we think is the design style may not fully understand unless you have visited France and see firsthand the charming lifestyle in their quaint cottages, chateaus, and farmhouse properties to understand exactly how a French Country kitchen really looks like.  I love the design style but with modern appliances and functions of a modern home.

American Design of French Country

We all love French Country design in our homes, the tufted sofas, black and white floors, limestone, floors, raw wood, old furniture, terra cotta, linen, olive trees, pastels, bixed patterns, tapestry hanging on the walls, crown mouldings, marble fireplace mantels, silk, etc. There is so much more to French design other that the simple things we see.  W have taken French design and made it into what we think French Country design is. A French Country kitchen does not have a lot of cabinets, islands, pot fillers, and all things modern in our French kitchen designs, instead there are open shelves and a large cabinet for storage, cabinets are of earth tone or simple wood, their kitchens are simple with only the necessary for the kitchen. They use hook pegs on the walls to hold towels, aprons, cutting boards, pots and pans. There are no islands in their kitchens, that's where their dining tables are. Their floors are either limestone or terra cotta, countertops are marble, not sealed. The photos above are a beautiful French kitchen. They prep food on the table, and then they either sit at the table and eat or if weather permits they will sit outside and dine.

I am a lover of all things French!! There are so many facets of French design, so many styles that only few people know of unless you have knowledge and love of French design as designers have learned or observed while visiting France. We as modern homemakers require more storage in our homes now, with our families and lives, than they do in France, although they have families as well, just not so many cabinets on the walls.

Do your research, if this is the style you would love to have in your home. France is a place I would love to visit someday. My soul says I should be there. Let me know your thoughts.
