"I Was Blue, Now I'm Going Green, Here's Why!"

Changing colors in your home's design is perfectly acceptable; actually encouraged, there's no need to commit to one color or decor style forever. Your taste and style will change over time. Over the years, I've transitioned through many styles until I discovered the design, taste, and color that express what my design style is and who I am as a person. I've cultivated a "Traditional with French Influence" style. The warm tones throughout my home reflect this design style and its personality. I choose a design that makes me happy when I walk in my front door.
My home design journey began with a mixture of all styles of furniture, with wicker chairs and shelves to a leather couch, brass triangular shelving with glass, to farmhouse, which was trendy at the time. Gradually, being a girl raised in the city, you'd think I would love a more contemporary design style, no that's not my design aesthetic at all I came to discover. So, I shifted from farmhouse to the design, look and feel that I love French country. I've also incorporated traditional elements into my design, restoring a few vintage pieces to establish my style. Once I discovered my desigh style, I though using the color blue was the way to go, WRONG!! I was drawn to the color London Fog Blue for my home—I incorporated it in my drapes, accent pillows, throw rugs, and dining chair upholstery (pictured above). Blue was what I felt evoked French design. However, times have evolved, and so have I, now I've begun to transition to a Dark Green, a color filled with personal significance, as it has memories of my mother, while the color also brings more warmth to my home design.
Growing up as a teen, we had a crushed velvet emerald, green sofa. My mother transformed a dull tan sofa with tiny flowers into this vibrant piece, even covering it in plastic at one point—a customary practice to shield valuable furniture from wear and tear over time. My mother had impeccable taste, complementing her sofa with gold pillows and genuine antique brass fixtures, alongside medium wood tones like walnut for our TV console and dining set.
I began to gradually introduce Dark Green into my home decor, aftle of years after I decorated my bedroom for Christmas a couple of years ago, I decided to go green. Accent pillows now adorn my sofa, and I plan to replace my area rug and reupholster my chairs with a lovely green patterned fabric. I've added the color to my bathroom and bedroom as accents since my bedroom is a beautiful blush and cream. You can introduce your new color and design pieces overtime into your home when your budget allows. I was hoping that Waverly Fabrics offered the fabric I love in green, to maintain the same design aesthetic on my dining chairs in my new color. My drapes will soon be soft velvet green, complemented by additional green accent pillows. Soon my home willl have the beautiful color that has been inspired by my mothers love of green. Happy Decorating!!!
